Poisonous Plants
Some people get very worried by 'Poisonous Plants'
As with many garden plants such as Buttercups,(Ranunculus) Daffodil bulbs, Privet, Rhododendrons, Sweetpeas, all green parts of the Potato, Tomato, Apple, Peach and of the Rhubarb, the following plants contained in this site or sold at the nursery should not be consumed but can be safely handled:
Hydrangeas, Iris, Lobelia, Digitalis (Foxgloves), Aconitum, Nerium, Solanum, Lupinus, Brugmansia.
However the risks of accidental poisoning are very small. Indeed, on a nature ramble through the British Countryside you will encounter many wild plants, such as Buttercups, Ivy, Solanum, Wild Poppy and Holly which also should not be eaten.
We would also like to remind gardeners that care should be taken when handling some other plants, especially when the time comes to prune them, as the sap contained in their stems may cause irritation, two notable genera are Ruta and Euphorbia
