Fall Garden Treatment Against Pests and Diseases

Fall-Garden-Treatment Gardening

In autumn, gardeners have a lot of worries not only about harvesting, but also about preparing the garden for winter. The next year’s harvest largely depends on how well the trees and soil are prepared and treated against pests. In autumn, it is necessary to perform spraying of plants with insecticides, digging the ground, fertilize, protect plantings from rodents. With the first frosts, heat-loving crops should be covered with spunbond and mulched with sawdust, peat, dry leaves or other materials. What equipment may be required for treatment in the fall against diseases and pests of the garden plot, what means are used for spraying?

To spray trees and shrubs in the garden in the fall, a variety of substances and preparations are used. When using any of them, it is important to follow certain rules and not to forget about safety precautions. Thus, it is better to spray garden crops in dry windless weather in the morning (before 10:00) or evening (after 18:00) hours. Performing treatment, the gardener must wear clothing and shoes designed for this purpose, while using personal protective equipment: respiratory mask, gloves, goggles to protect the eyes from the chemicals.

  • Copper sulfate. Early in the spring, catching belts – special traps for mechanical pest control in the form of a 20-25 cm wide strip made of paper, cardboard, rags, burlap, etc. are removed from trees. Insects clogged under it are removed along with the belt. Pests can settle for winter hibernation also in plant stump circles and under the bark of plants. Therefore, treatment of trees begins with the removal of old bark, moss and lichens, caulking wounds with garden varnish and whitewashing trunks with a solution containing copper sulfate. This substance with fungicidal properties is good in the fight against stain, rot, scab, coccomycosis, lichens. To prepare a working solution, 300-500 g of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water. The filtered mixture is poured into a sprayer, which is set on a fine spraying. Coat the branches and leaves of garden plants evenly with the solution.
  • Bordeaux liquid. It is one of the most popular formulations that is well suited for the treatment of fruit and berry crops. It is effective against scab, moniliosis, coccomycosis, fruit rot and various spots. Bordeaux liquid is a contact fungicide produced as a water-suspension concentrate of tri-basic copper sulfate. It is possible to prepare such a composition yourself. To do this, dissolve 100 g of copper sulfate in 1-1.5 liters of hot water in a container of at least 10 liters. Gradually adding cold water to bring the volume of liquid up to 4 liters. In another container to extinguish 100-150 grams of quicklime, so that you have 4 liters of lime solution. Pour the first mixture slowly into the second (not vice versa!), Stirring thoroughly. The result should be a tool bluish color, which is better to use on the day of preparation, do not leave in storage.
  • Urea. The treatment of the garden with urea (urea) is carried out after the leaf fall, but no later than October. The substance is used to prevent scab, spot disease and other diseases. To prepare a working solution, 500-700 g of the preparation diluted in 10 liters of water. Urea refers to non-toxic compounds. It is obtained by synthesizing carbon dioxide and ammonia. Autumn treatment of garden crops with this preparation is extremely important for a number of reasons. Autumn increases humidity and decreases air temperature, which contributes to the development of many dangerous infections in trees and shrubs. Urea, which contains 47% of nitrogen, increases the degree of plant resistance to various diseases, as well as promotes higher yields of fruit crops. The drug works immediately, and the effect of its use lasts for a long time. Urea is especially effective if the soil around the plant is moistened.
